Accuracy Enhancement for: Rem 700, Sav 110, A-Bolt, Etc.

Maximize your box stock bolt action rifle for high accuracy without spending a grand!

Most current production bolt action rifles have a-lot of potintial for shooting tight groups. Quality Barrels, receivers & chambering work done at the factories make this so. However they usually lack in certain areas such as bedding or the muzzle crown is not perfect. Since most people mount there scopes or have a shop mount it for them the factories have no control over that. Any way most of these omissions are over cost & the accuracy suffers because of it. Factories find their level of accuracy acceptable. Around 3" at 100 yrds for a STANDARD bolt action rifle. To get a higher degree of accuracy the consumer has to pay a-lot more to get it or get lucky. What I'm getting at is the fact that you would be amazed at the potintial your Rem 700 ADL or Savage 110 Etc. bolt action rifle has for shooting tight groups when properly set-up & tuned. If you have a Rem 700 that shoots 3" at 100 yrds & have a bedding job, crowning & precision scope mounting done, your groups will very likely tighten up to 3/4" to 1" at 100 yrds. Some of the best results I have seen are with the Browning A-Bolt that lacks a good bedding job. One went from around 2 & 3/4" at 100 to 1/2 at 100 yrds after the accuracy enhancement. Not bad at all!

The scope bases & rings are more often overlooked for any defects or alignment problems. The inside of the rings must have 80 - 90% contact to the scope body to hold the scope steady under recoil. Must out of the box ring sets have as little as 30% contact to scope body. This is why reaming the rings is done. Misalignment on the horizontal plane may not even be the fault of the rings or bases. The rear receiver bridge may be lower than the receiver ring in the front. In this case shiming is done. That situation is common too as the guns are hand polished & preped before finishing & remember it only takes a little to make a difference. Bases & rings MUST be level & in alignment with maximum ring to scope body contact to get the must out of your scope & deliver the best accuracy. If you can not get the range out of your scope without bottoming out your adjustment knobs, then do not "shim the rear base or ring to raise it" or anything like that. Doing so will likely cause permanent damage the scope. Instead get a scope that will: DO THE JOB.

The muzzle crown is another overlooked area.......well someone may look at it, but You can not look at the muzzle crown in most cases & tell if it is concentric or not. It only takes .003" to make a big diference. The naked eye can not detect this measurement. Example: My S&W M66-5 could have been doing better at the 25 yrd line. It was shooting a sad 4" group with most ammo & worse with other loads. I saw nothing wrong with it at the forceing cone or cylinder alignment, Etc. so I took a cut off the muzzle crown. There it was. The tool cut on one side, but not the other! It took 4 passes of the tool to get it concentric to the bore! I could not see it with my eyes until I took the cutting pass. Groups shrank to 1" - 2 & 3/4" at 25 yrds with most loads! And Of course A good trigger adjustment makes any gun lover weak in the knees! Enough jaw-in! Back to the price list!
